Analyze campaign materials from the 1828 Presidential election and interpret their effect on the American Political landscape.

Interpret ideas about federal vs. state control as argued through the Articles of Confederation up to and including the ratification of the US constitution.

Provide and in depth analysis of the effectiveness of both the Articles and Constitution on American Politics.

Objective: Analyze the differences between the Democrat-Republicans and Federalists.

1. Bell Ringer: What are the advantages and disadvantages of a two party political system?

2. Finish party issue slogans.

3. Each pair will come up and read their slogan, their partners will write down the slogans on a party platform sheet. These both will be turned in at the end of the class.

1) Bell Ringer: Read Exclusive Powers of the National Government and State Governments and answer the discussion questions in notes.

2) Work on the federalist-vs-dem-rep-analysis-guidelines-and-rubric.doc for which the slogan/poster will need to be completed at the start of class tomorrow.  You may want to look at:

Dem Rep Group Handouts or the Federalist Group Handout.  Also you may need the Timeline of Events As Related to the Dev. of Political Parties handout.
